Paul Steed

Dr. Steed currently serves as Senior Director of Discovery Biology at Takeda San Diego, with primary responsibility for managing the Discovery Biology department. His group is responsible for all biology research from assay development, enzyme pharmacology, cellular pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and in vivo efficacy to translational biology for the three therapeutic areas prosecuted at TSD: metabolic/cardiovascular disease, oncology and inflammation/arthritis.

Prior to joining Takeda San Diego, Dr. Steed served as Vice President of Research and Development for Nanovector, a startup biotech in Research Triangle Park NC, after serving as Senior Director of Biology for Serenex. At Serenex, Dr. Steed was responsible for all biology research, both internal and external, from target identification through preclinical development and translational biology. Serenex produced research assets in metabolic diseases, oncology, inflammation, anti-infectives and neurodegenerative diseases along with a clinical asset in oncology, and was acquired by Pfizer in 2008. From 1992 to 2002, Dr. Steed gained experience in all aspects of pharmaceutical biology research, program management and global strategic planning at Novartis (Ciba-Geigy prior to 1997) in Summit NJ.

Dr. Steed received his Ph.D. in molecular biology from Purdue University in 1992 and B.A. in biology from Lafayette College in 1986. He is an author of more than 20 papers, including multiple high-impact manuscripts and several patents.
