David M. Stemerick, J.D.

Senior Corporate Counsel, Takeda San Diego Intellectual Property

Mr. David M. Stemerick is Senior Corporate Counsel in the U.S. Intellectual Property Department for Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (Takeda) and is responsible for overseeing the intellectual property professionals at Takeda San Diego.

Prior to joining Takeda, Mr. Stemerick was Associate General Patent Counsel at Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly) where his responsibilities included development and execution of exclusivity strategies. Also, during his time at Lilly, Mr. Stemerick had extensive experience in U.S. Hatch-Waxman litigation and global patent enforcement.

Prior to joining Lilly, Mr. Stemerick was Senior Patent Attorney at Hoechst Marion Roussel (now Sanofi-Aventis) where his responsibilities included preparation and prosecution of patent applications and development of patent strategies for maximizing the value of the generic product pipeline of Chelsea Laboratories/Rugby Inc. Prior to joining the Patent Department of Hoechst Marion Rousell, Mr. Stemerick carried out research as a medicinal chemist at its predecessor companies. Mr. Stemerick has co-authored about 30 scientific manuscripts and abstracts and is an inventor or co-inventor on 13 issued U.S. patents.

Mr. Stemerick received a Juris Doctor degree from Northern Kentucky University, (Salmon P. Chase College of Law) and Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati.
