Mr. Weitz serves as General Counsel and Chief Intellectual Property Counsel for Takeda San Diego, Inc. In this role, he is response for the legal, intellectual property and compliance operations of the company. Mr. Weitz also oversees the finance, facilities, purchasing, and information technology departments of the company.

Mr. Weitz joined the company (then Syrrx) in 2002 as General Counsel and Vice President of Intellectual Property. Prior to Syrrx's acquisition by Takeda, Mr. Weitz established and built the company's legal and intellectual property departments. He also negotiated all of Syrrx's major business transactions including the acquisition of the company by Takeda in 2005. Following the acquisition by Takeda, Mr. Weitz has been heavily involved with the integration of Syrrx with Takeda and numerous Takeda business development efforts including executed deals with PPD, Alnylam, XOMA, and Archemix.

Prior to joining Syrrx/Takeda, Mr. Weitz was a Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR) of Palo Alto, CA where he co-headed the firm's patent department. He was the first associate in the firm's history to be elected to the WSGR partnership from the patent department.

At WSGR, his practice covered all aspects of intellectual property and focused on companies in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemistry, material science, medical devices, lasers and optics.

Mr. Weitz received a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley (Boalt Hall School of Law), a Masters of Science degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
